Peer advisors are a great resource if you are looking for guidance on topics such as: What is Political Economy? or What can I do with a Political Economy major? or How do I connect with other PE students? or How do I connect with other transfer students in the PE major? or How do I get into undergraduate research? or How do I secure an internship/Study Abroad opportunity? or How do I join a student organization?

Katherine BooskaKatherine is a sophomore, double majoring in History and Political Economy. She studies the histories of religion and the post-Soviet states, while pursuing a tentative PE concentration in Comparative Political Economy. Outside of class, she writes for the Berkeley Political Review, participates in undergraduate research within the Program on Domestic Security Institutions and Violent Instability, and is in Delta Phi Epsilon, an international relations professional fraternity. In her free time, she does improv comedy as part of Best Laid Plans Improv, Bootleg Sketch Comedy, and Improv 4 Charity. She is excited to share the PE knowledge she wishes her past self knew!
MAYA CAMACHOMaya is a senior in PE major with a concentration in Development. Double minoring in City & Regional Planning and Public Policy. On-campus, she is involved with the Latinx community through Hermanas Unidas de UC Berkeley and the Chicanx Latinx Student Development Office and is also Director of PR for Next Generation Nations Berkeley. Off-campus, she has interned for a congressional district office, a law firm, a global public strategy firm, and has volunteered in various campaigns. In the future she intends to work in the policy or legal field to help build up communities. She is excited to be a PE peer advisor and hopes to share some of the knowledge she wishes she would have known sooner about PE and Cal in general!

MICHAEL CHANGMichael is a senior double majoring in Operations Research and Political Economy with a concentration in Healthcare Inequality. Political Economy to him means understanding why society acts and behaves the way that it does, and he hopes to share his love for the major as a peer advisor. Outside of classes, Michael enjoys spending time in nature, going on hikes on the fire trails behind Berkeley and playing basketball at the RSF. Stacy GabrielStacy is a junior, pursuing a simultaneous degree through the College of Letters & Science and the Rausser College of Natural Resources. She is double majoring in Political Economy and Society & Environment, with a minor in Public Policy. Last summer she declared Political Economy and hopes to use her experiences to help others explore and learn more about the major. She is very excited to join the peer advising team this semester. Incia HaiderIncia is currently a third-year student double-majoring in Political Economy and Global Studies. Within the PE major, her concentration is focused on global inequality and development, whereas with Global Studies, she is concentrating on peace and conflict in the Middle East. She is passionate about teaching and helping students, and hopes to share her love of the PE major through Peer Advising. Aside from classes, Incia is involved with Berkeley Model UN, undergraduate research at the Human Rights Investigations Lab, and also enjoys reading and writing. Jillian HutchisonJillian is a third year majoring in Political Economy with a concentration in International Trade and Econometrics. After struggling to decide what to major in at Cal, Jillian is so grateful that she found the unique, interdisciplinary PE major that has allowed her to pursue multiple interests. In addition to her role as a peer advisor, Jillian is involved in the Berkeley Volunteer Income Tax Association, SAGE Mentorship Program, and The Women’s Network. In the past Jillian has participated in marketing internships, and she will be interning this summer in international commercial banking in San Francisco.
PANIZ KARIMPOURPaniz transferred from Santa Monica College(SMC) to Cal in Fall 2019. She got interested in studying Political Economy after she served in the student government at SMC, and taking the Classical Theories of PE. Her goal as the Transfer Relations Chair is to make sure all the transfer students intending to major in PE are aware of the valuable resources PESA and the PE department offers. Some of her interests include learning more about leadership, politics, and the stock market. Reach out to her if you have any questions or just want to talk!

CHRISTINA KEARNYChristy is doing a double major in Linguistics and Political Economy, with a concentration in International Development. Alongside being a peer advisor, she is also involved inW150 research, campus ambassadors, and club sports. During the summers, her Political Economy background has taken her to intern at the State Department as well as EY Consulting. She looks forward to sharing her knowledge about curriculum with the next generation of PE students.
Cindy NguyenCindy is a senior studying Political Economy with a concentration in Development and the Environment. She aspires to have a career in environmental and resource development and restoration. For the past few years, she has been working at the College of Environmental Design as an Administrative and Communications Student Assistant for the Development and Alumni Relations. Her work mainly consists of development projects, stewardship analytics, and media work on the university website and socials. Her previous extracurricular activities include being an Intercollegiate Council representative for the Cal Vietnamese Student Association and a Marketing Committee member for the NorCal UVSA Summit XIII Conference.
Paolo Harris PazPaolo is a Junior majoring in Political Economy with a concentration in Sustainability and Global Inequality and minoring in Global Poverty and Practice. On campus, Paolo is a photographer for the Daily Californian and has been in several URAP apprenticeships. During summer, his interest in Political Economy has landed him internships with Immigration Law firms in San Francisco. In his free time, Paolo likes to go on runs, watch European football matches, and play the guitar. He is excited about being a PE peer advisor and is happy to help prospective students in their journey.
Hildeberto VenegasHildeberto is a third-year majoring in Political Economy with a concentration in Economic Development and a Public Policy minor. Hildeberto transferred to Cal from Napa Valley College in Fall 2020. Before coming to Cal, Hildeberto was a member of the student government and worked with the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area to provide legal and educational services to immigrants hoping to become US citizens. At Cal, he works as an associate in the office of the ASUC Transfer Representative, is part of the Alumni Scholars Program, and a member of the John Quincy Adams Society. After graduating, Hildeberto plans to attend law school at UC Hastings or Berkeley Law. His goal as PE Peer Advisor is to provide guidance to recent transfer students as the challenges they face are unique.
